Art 100 is a foundation class that provides students with the basic visual vocabulary for designing on a two-dimensional surface. Students learn how to effectively apply the principles of design (unity, balance, variety, emphasis, rhythm, economy, proportion/scale) to solving varied design problems. Students explore a variety of media as they investigate the design process and create two-dimensional projects with an emphasis on professional presentation formats. Students are introduced to basic navigation skills utilizing the Macintosh platform. Students are required to present a portfolio of 2-5 exemplary works.

Art 102 is a foundation class that focuses on teaching students to draw realistically. Students learn how to use a variety of materials and techniques to effectively create hand drawn images and compositions based on what is seen. Emphasis is placed on understanding the creative process, training the eye, and accessing the right side of the brain. Students examine drawings by a variety of artists to better understand composition and use of media. Students are required to present a portfolio of 2-5 exemplary works.
