Prerequisite: Consent of the department. A study of the processes associated with the scientific method of hypothesis testing. Primary emphasis will be placed on how to formulate hypotheses, design experiments to generate the data necessary to test the hypotheses, use one or a series of instruments and research techniques to generate data, analyze the data statistically, and use the data to draw conclusions related to the initial hypotheses. A variety of state-of-the art research methodologies will be covered. One hour of lecture and six hours of laboratory per week. 3 cr.
