An examination of the scientific methods used in designing and conducting experiments in the social and behavioral sciences. Students will learn to critically review research in the fields of social work, psychology, and counseling, in order to make use of knowledge available consistent with the scientific method and with the tenets of their faith. A study of how individuals feel, think, and behavein social settings-in the presence of others. Topics to be considered include how people form attitudes, evaluations and judgments of others, what causespeople's behavior, how we interpret others' behaviors, and how our interpretations of others' behaviors influence the ways we treat them. Prerequisite: SS 171 Principles of Psychology. Same as CC 336. (3)

Studies diverse lifestyles, values, socioeconomic classes, ethnic, racial, and immigrant backgrounds, and their social significance. (3)

The course will examine the ethical issues confronting the counselor. A decision-making model will be introduced to aid the counselor in making ethical decisions. (3)

Examination of common counseling problems such as stress, depression, anxiety, parenting/marital issues, and communication problems. (3)

The course will study a variety of counseling skills such as listening, attending, responding, and communication. (3)

An introduction to the basic principles of effective counseling, with special emphasis upon counseling situations likely to be confronted by specialized Christian workers. Same as CC 430 and CE 430. (3)

An introduction to the various forms of psychological abnormality, the settings in which they develop, and methods of prevention and cure, including the dynamics of personality development and various kinds of stress. Prerequisite: SS 171 Principles of Psychology. Seniors only. (3)

Students will assemble and organize a portfolio of work demonstrating their mastery of each of the LCC learning objectives. Portfolios will present evidence of students' understanding of key theories, as well as application of these theories. (0)

An introduction to the key Biblical beliefs that define the historic Christian faith (e.g. God, Christ, Holy Spirit, humanity, sin, salvation, etc.), with attention given to the credibility of such beliefs. (3)
