Focuses on issues associated with clients'/ patients' rights, professional and ethical behaviors, as specified by American Speech- Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and other resources. Includes an overview of the educational service system and the health care industry. Reviews documentation required in planning, implementing and evaluating communicative behaviors. Prerequisites or Corequisites: SLP212, or SLP214, or permission of Instructor.

2 Credits. 2 Periods. Studies a variety of behavior management techniques including classical conditioning, operant conditioning modeling, motor learning and cognitive learning. Examines how to apply these techniques in working with speech-language disordered clients. Prerequisites or Corequisites: SLP212 or SLP214 or permission of Instructor.

Provides opportunities to create lesson plans, implement therapy, record client performance and maintain appropriate documentation for a variety of speech-language disorders in a variety of therapeutic environments. A minimum of 50 hours in a therapeutic environment required. Prerequisites: SLP212, and SLP214.

Reviews use of computer hardware and software that has been adapted for disabled individuals as well as low-tech and high-tech assistive technology and augmentative/alternative communication systems. Prerequisites: SLP205, or permission of Instructor.

Provides overview of disabilities with a focus on treatment techniques for low incidence disabilities, including blindness, low vision, deafness, hard-of-hearing, moderate to severe mental impairment, deafblindness, significant developmental delay, complex health issues, serious physical impairment, multiple disability, traumatic brain injury, genetic syndromes, and autism. Prerequisites: SLP104, or SLP205, or permission of Instructor.
