Reading Across the Disciplines is designed to improve college students' reading and thinking skills through skill instruction and extensive guided practice with academic discipline-based readings This course will teach the relevance of college studies to events and issues in everyday life through the use of engaging readings Students will understand, evaluate and apply what they read as well as providing instruction in comprehension, questioning, clarifying, and analyzing to reach objective, reasoned judgments essential to college reading skills This course will develop college level vocabulary, inferential and critical reading and thinking skills and guide student applications in each of the academic disciplines Content area specific readings will be used to demonstrate how academic disciplines embrace and investigate topics of interest and concern to a college student's experience
