This course is designed to be an interdisciplinary approach to research and essay writing, providing students with a variety of research skills and methods. It will stress the APA/MLA documentation style. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, analysis, and research. Passing the course with a grade of "C" or better satisfies the Outcomes Assessment activity for Interdisciplinary Studies majors. Prerequisite: ENGL 1010 with a grade of "C" or better.

This course provides an introduction to the field of human services. It examines the roots of social welfare, social work and human services in the experience of man; a philosphical and historical orientation to human services and social work; roles and modes of intervention of social work relating to human needs and social issues; and survey of human services in the social welfare framework. The social, legal and ethical aspects of human services will be examined within the profession. 3 hours lecture.

This course will assist students in developing the skills associated with effective case management in a human services setting. Students will explore the many factors affecting case management today including federal legislation, emerging client groups, technology, shifting demographics, new service delivery models, and the resulting legal and ethical dilemmas. Students will be required to complete a simulated case management project from initial screening to evaluation. 3 hours lecture.

This course is the first of two experiential courses to allow students to perform in a practical way the theories and ideas expressed in the classroom. This aspect of the Human Services degree program will certify that students have successfully integrated the knowledge, skill and attitude of a human services professional in a real-life, client-based environment. It is the time for students to apply their classroom learning in a community-based human service setting (agency, school, health care facility, correctional facility, mental health facility). It is designed to enable the student to gain practical experience as a team member and to exand their base of knowledge about their particular human service interest and/or specialization. This course requires a minimum of 240 field hours. This course is offered for a S/U grade only.

This seminar-style course will esplore a variety of topics that are central to the human experience through an interdisciplinary persective. This course will promote an atmosphere of intellectual exchange and a more active level of student involvement in the learning process. The content will vary by semester. Required course for Honors Program students. This course will fulfill a Visual, Performing, Fine Arts requirement and a Cultural Awareness requirement. Prerequisite: Honors Program Acceptance or Instructor Approval. 3 lecture hours.

Concerned with the role of information systems in managing organizations to make them more competitive and efficient. Specific topics include organizational and technical foundations of information systems and building and managing systems. Students must have Sophomore standing to enroll in this course. 3 hours lecture.

This course introduces methods of assessing website design and content. In this course, students use analytical skills to critically appraise websites. They also gain knowledge of the current trends in website design. 1 hour lecture.

This course provides an understanding of the development and function of the Internet, and introduces students to the basic tools for using the Internet for communication and research and as a resource for electronic media. The course will include hands-on interaction with Internet tools. 1/2 hour lecture, 1 hour lab.
