Overview of theoretical and empirical research on organizations and bureaucracies. Analysis of intersections between work, family, and leisure, and links between inequality, race, gender, and work. Examinations of unions and professional organizations. Review of public policy debates and legislation regarding corporations and work-related issues. Also listed under SC 280. Prerequisite: SC 101 or sophomore standing.

The stress is on research design, sampling, measurement concepts, questionnaire design, observation and interviews, experimentation, data analysis, forecasting, and ethical issues. This course emphasizes the role of the sales manager with particular reference to the problems involved in planning the sales effort, managing sales and service personnel, and controlling sales operations. Students learn the mechanics of the sales process and are acquainted with the competencies needed for success and the duties and responsibilities entailed in the many diverse aspects of being a sales manager. The student deals with cases involving typical but practical problem situations confronting sales people and sales managers and tries to solve them. Prerequisite: BU 301.

Principles of organizational design and processes of management. Includes management by objectives, policies, procedures, planning, authority and delegation, decision making and leadership styles. Open to non-concentrators.

This course covers the art and science of Human Resource Management from both practical and theoretical points of view. Students will learn the art of communication, motivation, training and development. Topics for discussion to include sensitive HRM issues -- sexual harassment, drug testing, wrongful discharge, employee involvement groups and ethical training.

This course explores the unique aspects of human resources management of sports organizations including ethical and legal issues. Topics will include the differences between administrative and player management, dealing with sports agents, trading athletes, drug testing, and sexual harassment. Prerequisite: BU 106.
