A study of plants of economic and cultural importance to humans. Flowering and nonflowering plants and products such as fruit, forage, grain, medicines, herbs and spices, textile fibers, dyes, lumber, etc., as studied in relation to human history. This course is of cultural significance. This course may satisfy Natural Sciences Individual Choice GE. Prerequisites: any Bio core class (i.e. Bio 1010, Bio 1070, etc.) or instructor permission.

Introductory microbiology surveys the fundamental biological processes observed in bacteria and microorganisms with emphasis placed on their beneficial and harmful activities related to humans and other organisms. Molecular genetics and biotechnology are introduced. It must be taken concurrently with BIO 2065.

A beginning course in the structure, function, activities, life histories and classification of the Arthropoda, with special reference to the Class Insecta. This course can satisfyy Natural Sciences Individual Choice GE. Prerequisites: any Bio core class (i.e. Bio 1020, Bio 1030, etc.) or instructoir permission.

The laboratory component will allow students to investigate the principles learned in bio 2180. Students will collect, mount and identify insects they have collected. It satisfies the lab requirement for Natural Sciences GE.

This general microbiology course is designed for those with a basic understanding of biology and chemistry. The course will cover the morphology, reproduction, metabolism, microbial and molelcular genetics, biotechnology, ecology, and diversity of microorganisms. An emphasis will be placed on bacteria, viruses, fungi, protists, and their role in the environment and human disease. The lecture must be taken concurrently with the lab BIO 2205. Courses must be taken together to satisfy the Life Science GE requirement.
