The course includes rhe philosophy of historic preservation and traditional practices for the repair, cleaning, and restoring of decorative and flat plaster. The application of scratch, brown, finish, moldings, and medallians are done in the TBSI workshop or on a building project site.

This course is a hands on workshop for the traditional building skills of architectural wood carving. The course includes the philosophy of historic wood carving and traditional practices of wood carving, The participants learn carving principles through working on an Acanthus leaf or similar models. The workshop also covers layout and design, and the use and sharpening of carving chisels. This class is for beginners through advanced students.

The course includes the philosophy of historic preservation and traditional practices of log cabin repair. It teaches skills needed to repair typical problems encountered in historic log buildings such as log replacement, decay repairs, hewing, notching, moving, dutchman, roof installation and other skills. This course is a hands on workshop for the traditional building skill of wood window fabrication, repair and restoration. The course includes the philosophy, history of wood windows, with restoration and preservation techniques. Also traditional practices in fabrication of a wood window is taught.

This course offers a hands on workshop for the traditional building skills of the ancient art of making and decorating ceramic tiles. Participants will learn how to roll and cut handmade tiles from a sheet of damp clay. Participants will decorate "biscuit" or clay fired tiles, using traditional methods which have been used since the time of ancient Egyptians. Particpants will also learn how to get the tiles ready for final firing by applying different glazes for different effects. This workshop will include a field trip to the Snow college ceramic art studio to obsesrve the final stages of loading the kiln and the process of firing tiles. A brief demonstration on how to cut tiles on a wet saw and the installation of tiles will also be presented by an expert.

This course offers a hands on workshop for the traditional building skills of Decorative and Faux painting. This course includes faux painting techniques in marbling, wood graining, gold leafing, fresco art, antiquing, gliding, sgraddito, wall treatments and others. Many techniques are learned on sample boards.
