MUSC 1656: Private Brass I

This course provides students with individual brass instruction. Private instruction is required for music majors each semester during college. Music majors receive 1 hour private lessons, and non-majors receive 1/2 hour private lessons. This course develops a student's technical, interpretive, sight reading, pedagogical, and improvisational skills. Students also learn about their instrument in the context of history and repertoire. A jury is required at the end of the semester for students enrolled in 1 hour private lessons.

Music majors receive one-hour lessons each week of the semester. The course is repeatable for credit. This course develops a student's technical, interpretive, sight reading, pedigogical and improvisational skills as well as developing a student's understanding of the history and repertory of the specific in strumental/voice. A jury is required at the end of the semester. The jury accounts for 20% of the grade for the course. An additional fee is required.

Music performance majors are required to take 60-minute lessons each week, while music education and music therapy students are required to take 30-minute lessons each week. All students are also required to participate in regular master classes, recitals and juries which fulfill the lab portion of the course. The course is also available to non-music majors who wish to develop their musicianship and performance skills. An additional fee is required.
