Provides student with essential knowledge of airway care and mechanical ventilation. Airway care includes indications, techniques, equipment, and hazards and complications. Mechanical ventilation includes indications, initiation, modes, clinical application, management, complications, and weaning. Prerequisites: RSPT 1160, RSPT 1201, RSPT 1307, RSPT 1410. Corequisites: RSPT 1213, RSPT 1361, RSPT 2310. Three lecture hours and four lab hours per week.

A comprehensive course designed to develop the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitation of the adult. Includes strategies for managing and stabilizing the cardiopulmonary arrested patient. May include certification Prerequisites: RSPT 2353, RSPT 2358, RSPT 2360. Corequisites: RSPT 2231, RSPT 2247, RSPT 2361. One hour lecture and two hours lab per week.

The theory and history of clinical simulation examinations. Includes construction types, scoring, and mechanics of taking the computerized simulation examination. This class will also offer a comprehensive review for the RRT exam. Prerequisites: RSPT 2353, RSPT 2358, RSPT 2360. Corequisites: RSPT 2139, RSPT 2247, RSPT 2361. One hour lecture and four hours lab per week.

Emerging and specialty practices in respiratory care. Prerequisites: RSPT 2353, RSPT 2358, RSPT 2360. Corequisites: RSPT 2139, RSPT 2231, RSPT 2361. Two hours lecture per week.

A discussion of pathogenesis, pathology, diagnosis, history, prognosis, manifestations, treatment, and detection of cardiopulmonary diseases. Prerequisites: RSPT 1160, RSPT 1201, RSPT 1307, RSPT 1410. Corequisites: RSPT 1213, RSPT 1361, RSPT 1411. Two lecture hours and four lab hours per week.

Advanced concepts of acute care, monitoring and management as applied to the neonatal and pediatric patient. Prerequsites: RSPT 1362, RSPT 2355. Corequisites: RSPT 2358, RSPT 2360. Two lecture hours and four lab hours per week.

Advanced monitoring techniques used clinically to assess a patient in the critical care setting. This course will also include weaning of the ventilator patient. Prerequsites: RSPT 1213, RSPT 1361, RSPT 1411, RSPT 2310. Corequisites: RSPT 1362. Two lecture hours and four lab hours per week.

Instruction in the integration of patient examination techniques, clinical lab studies, x-ray, pulmonary function, arterial blood gases, and invasive and noninvasive hemodynamics results in patient assessment. This class also includes instruction on pulmonary function testing and ECG analysis. Prerequisites: RSPT 1362, RSPT 2355. Corequisites: RSPT 2353, RSPT 2360. Two lecture hours and four lab hours per week.

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Prerequisites: RSPT 1362, RSPT 2355. Corequisites: RSPT 2353, RSPT 2358. Sixteen contact hours per week.
