A study of microeconomic principles including the theories of demand, production, the firm, and income determination. Also covered are the topics of international trade, economic development, and comparative systems. Three hours lecture per week.

A study of the research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition and motivation; factors that impact learning; and application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college-level student strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g. learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply learning skills discussed to their own academic programs and become effective and efficient learners. Students developing these skills should be able to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned. This course is considered an open elective. Three lecture hours per week.

Introduction to how learning occurs; opportunities to observe selected classrooms in local schools, EC-12 with varied and diverse student populations; will study and analyze the culture of schooling and classrooms; will develop knowledge and skills about instruction needed to be a successful teacher in schools of today. 3 hours lecture per week and 16 hours observation/field experience.

An overview of schooling and classrooms from the perspectives of language, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnic, and academic diversity and equity with an emphasis on factors that facilitate learning; will have opportunities to participate in early field observations of EC-12 special populations; will develop knowledge and skills about instruction needed to work with special populations. 3 hours lecture per week and 16 hours observation/field experience. Pre-requisite for this course is EDUC 1301.

A method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work-based experience, and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation, and placement are the responsibility of the college faculty. Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Corequisite: EMSP 1501 or EMSP 1313. Six contact hours per week.

Basic first responder course in basic emergency medical care. Emphasis on requirements of national and state accrediting agencies. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Prerequisite: Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer or equivalent course completion. Suggested Corequisite: HPRS 1206. Two hours lecture, three hours lab per week.

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with traumatic injuries. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Prerequisite: Completion of the Fall Semester of the Paramedic Certificate. Corequisite: EMSP 1438, 1456, 2248, AND 2260.

An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. Topics include, roles and responsibilities, EMS systems, rescue operations, scene management, basic concepts of human development and pathophysiology, basic pharmacology, effective communications, medical/legal and ethical issues, and the well being of the Paramedic. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Prerequisite: Current Texas EMT-Basic certification. Corequisites: EMSP1456 AND 2248.

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills required to reach competence in performing patient assessment and airway management. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Prerequisite: Current Texas EMT-Basic certification. Corequisite: EMSP 1438, 2248, and 2260.

Introduction to the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services. A minimum course grade of 80 is required. Prerequisite: Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer or equivalent course completion. Corequisite: EMSP 1260.
