Topics in Museum Administration is a group of short courses on such topics as museum boards and governance, financial management, database management, fundraising and grant writing. Each course is taught be a professional in the field. Students may repeat MSST 611 with different topics.

Examines archaeology and heritage in cultural resource management, museum and historic site interpretation, and public history. Addresses archaeological philosophy, practice, and pedagogy. Engages the academic-public discourse relating to the construction, dissemination, and contesting of archaeological knowledge in seminar and practical project experience at an agency, research center, museum, or community organization.

Variable content. Survey of major themes in print and material culture studies, with exploration of research methods, theoretical approaches, and curatorial practices. RESTRICTIONS: Departmental Consent.

Internship practice in administration, collections management, exhibition and interpretation at museums and related institutions. Students spend ten full weeks, or the equivalent, at the University museum, winterthur Museum, Hagley Museum, Longwood Gardens or other acceptable institution. RESTRICTIONS: Open to graduate students only. Requires at least one semester course in museum studies and permission of instructor.
