, fall, spring. This lab experience will enhance journalistic skills through participation on a student media staff. Involvement in a variety of reporting, editing and production tasks will enhance student understanding of how staffs function, the essentiality of setting and meeting deadlines, and the complexity of achieving broad yet thorough community coverage. Prerequisites: Junior standing, JMC 100 and JMC 102. Graded credit/no credit. Fee required.

fall, spring. A study of newspaper journalism with an emphasis on public affairs reporting, computer assisted reports, in-depth reporting, ethics, and laboratory work on the student newspaper. Prerequisites: JMC 102, 223.

spring, even years. Study of the use of the camera and photographs to report and tell a story in the media. Extensive laboratory experience. Prerequisites: JMC 223, 233.

fall. Principles and practice of copy editing and headline writing. Prerequisite: JMC 223.

fall. Principles and practices of typography, graphic journalism, and publication design. Prerequisite: JMC 201.

fall, spring. A course in television field production including the operation of professional ENG cameras and linear and non-linear editors. Students will produce program segments suitable for airing on laocal stations, or for video and Web distribution. Prerequisites: JMC 260.

on demand. A study of the interaction of media and religion and the use of media by religious groups, with varying emphases depending upon current events and student needs. Prerequisite: junior standing.

spring. A study of professional writing skills and formats commonly used in public relations and marketing communications. Emphasis placed on learning through application, case studies and lab exercises. Prerequisites: JMC 301 and either JMC 223 or JMC 239.

fall, spring. Creativity, ideation, market analysis, campaign creativity, creative direction, creative writing and copy writing. Prerequisite: JMC 301.

, fall. An analysis of the use of media in advertising, sales promotion campaigns, and publicity campaigns. Emphasis on planning concepts, strategy development, product and target analysis, budgeting, audience measurement, buying tactics, plan writing, and media relations. Prerequisite: JMC 301.
