(3 sem. hrs.) (Prerequisites: DSPR 0700, DSPW 0700) ART 1030 is an introduction to the visual arts, with particular emphasis on sculpture, painting, and architecture. Students will use the formal elements of design to analyze world art in the context of historical periods and cultural frameworks. 3 hours lecture. RODP Equivalent Course - ART 1030

(Prerequisites: DSPR 0700, DSPW 0700) An art history survey from the "Impressionistic Period" to "Contemporary Art" with emphasis on art philosophies reflected in the work of these modern artists. 3 hours lecture.

(4 sem. hrs.) (Prerequisites: DSPR 0800, DSPW 0800, DSPM 0850) ASTR 1030 is an introduction to astronomy, with particular emphasis on what is known about the solar system and the basis for that knowledge. Topics include the history and methods of astronomy, the formation of the solar system, and the physical characteristics of the sun, planets, moons, and minor members of the solar system (asteroids, meteoroids, and comets). 3 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory. This course introduces the allied health student to the basics of anatomy and physiology. These basics will include integumentary, skeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, genitourinary, reproductive, and endocrine systems.

This course introduces the student to the methods of biological science. It explores the chemical basis of life; cell structure and function including energy metabolism; cell division; DNA and gene regulation; Mendelian and molecular genetics; the process of evolution; speciation; mechanisms for the origin of life on earth; the principles of systematics; the prokaryotes and the Kingdom Protists.

This course introduces the student to the diversity of life on earth, looking in more detail at the fungi, plants and animals. The structure and function of flowering plants is reviewed. Animal anatomy (tissues, organs and organ systems), physiology, reproduction and development are covered with an emphasis on humans. The final section of the course covers the principles of ecology.

(4 sem. hrs.) (Prerequisites: DSPM 0700, DSPW 0800, DSPR 0800) An introduction to biology with emphasis on chemical, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, evolution and ecological relationships. A survey of the kingdoms Monera, Protista, and Fungi, with emphasis on morphological and reproductive aspects of these organisms. 3 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory. A study of nutrients and their relationship to human growth, development, and maintenance. Special emphasis is given to the role of foods and the nutrients they contain, with regard to the physiological, psychological, and sociological well-being of the individual. Practical analysis of food records and application of nutritional knowledge will be included.
