This course examines the history, nature, and evolution of organized crime in the United States from its nineteenth century origins to present. The impact of prohibition, political corruption, the Kefauver Senate hearings, and other significant events will be analyzed. In addition, the criminal justice response, including the use of wiretaps, RICO, asset seizure, and witness protection, will be reviewed. Prerequisite: CRJ 111

This course examines the growth of organizations providing leisure activities and the reason for their growth during the 20th century. Among the industries to be studied are the impact of advertising in shaping attitudes, the effect of USA Today on other newspapers, and the global importance of Disney and McDonalds on society.
