This course is a study of auditory perception, psychoacoustics, and hearing science as it relates to audio engineering, sound recording, and music production.

Prerequisites: AET 3090, and three hours from AET 3190, AET 3370, AET 4400, or AET 3560, and permission of instructor. A study of the many roles of the modern recording engineer. Topics include studio ownership and management, clients, unions, current tax laws, and the impact of electronic and acoustic innovations and patents. Research project and lab hours required.

Prerequisites: AET 3090, and three hours from AET 3190, AET 3370, AET 4400, or AET 3560, and permission of instructor. This course explores the practical application of master mixing techniques used in modern production ($30.00 course fee). This course will substitute for AET 4190 or AET 4380.

Prerequisite: AET 3560. A practicum based study of concert sound reinforcement. Students will have hands-on experience with various sound reinforcement systems, live mixing, monitor equalization, and areas related to management of a live sound system in a professional concert situation. ($30.00 course fee) Gen. Ed. Designation: EL (I - Internships, Clinicals, Practica).

Prerequisite: AET 3190 and permission of instructor. A practicum based study of live-concert recording techniques utilizing a remote recording truck. The course will also provide the follow-up experience of mixing and mastering the live-recorded project. ($30.00 course fee)

A practicum based study of tour-support personnel and their responsibilities including pre-production planning, technical coordination, transportation logistics, and the associated contracts and organizational paperwork. This course is an introduction to basic drawing materials, practices, and concepts. The class will focus on the process of perception in particular as a means to achieve a successful drawing. Various techniques of using graphite, pen, and conte crayon will be demonstrated, and the use of line, value shading, and composition will be constantly emphasized and practiced, using assorted classroom and outdoor arrangements as a basis for study. Students who successfully complete the course should be able to use contour line, value shading, gesture, and other techniques to accurately represent what they see.

Prerequisite: ART 1030. The course practice will consist primarily of observing and drawing the human figure in a wide range of poses, lighting conditions and time frames, and learning to use a variety of media and techniques. Special emphasis will be on placing a figure within a composition and using correct anatomical proportions. Additional out-of-class drawings with figurative elements will be assigned in order to further develop perceptual sensitivities. Students completing the course should be able to draw the human figure using conte crayon, charcoal and graphite, as well as understand several historical approaches used to make successful figure drawings. ($35.00 course fee)

An emphasis on basic painting skills and the exploration of techniques and materials. Exercises include: chiaroscuro, flat pattern design, direct painting (alla prima), glazing, and paint application techniques. Design basics, color mixing, and problem solving skills are stressed. Mediums used are acrylic and oil based. ($50.00 course fee)
