Notes: This course requires participation in a pre- and post-semester orientation that follows the school district calendar. Contact the course instructor for specific requirements. A grade of S or U is recorded. Prerequisites: Admission To Teacher Education Program at Graduate Level. Corequisites: ENGE 591.

Description: Study of the major literary periods, forms, and cultural issues that characterize British literature, with an emphasis on representative major works and authors over the course of British literary history and with consideration of the historical contexts in which these works were constructed. Prerequisite(s): WRIT 101 with a grade of C- or better. Notes: A student may not receive credit for both ENGL 203 and 201 or 202. Offered in fall, spring and summer.

Description: Prepares students for university-level English studies by introducing and reinforcing basic strategies of literary analysis, including essay composition, research methods, documentation requirements, literary terms, critical theory, and periodicity. The course also provides practical instruction in how to navigate the choices available to the English major, including selecting electives and tracks, writing resumes, applying to graduate school, applying for internships and scholarships, preparing for careers after graduation, and tutoring. Notes: Offered in spring and fall. Students who transfer in 12 or more hours of ENGL courses numbered above 199 are exempt from ENGL 291.

Description: Study of major critical approaches to literature including such theories including such theories as formalism, pyschoanalysis, New Historicism, deconstruction, gender studies, disability studies, and postcolonialism. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing.
