EDCO 321H: Leadership for College Readiness

This course is designed to implement the Floyd College Readiness Program. Students will learn the applied skills of leadership to teach "College Readiness? to diverse students at a local high school. College Readiness includes, but is not limited to; teaching high school students how to build a schedule, study for and take exams, sign up for a tutor, join campus clubs and organizations, maintain wellness in all dimensions, etc. College Readiness Leaders will assist with the planning and implementation of the Campus Visit event. Pre-requisites: ACAD 101, LEAD 120, or ACAD 300, or Permission of Instructor. Notes: Criminal background check required prior to high school placement.

The course focuses on utilizing Functional Behavior Analysis and communication with parents and other caregivers from diverse backgrounds including those living in poverty. Prerequisite: EDCO 350, Admission to Teacher Education Program. Corequisite: EDUC 401 or program area field-based course. Notes: This course requires participation in a pre- and post-semester orientation that follows the school district calendar. Contact the course instructor for specific requirements. Description: Field-based internship in which teacher candidates investigate the learning-teaching context of the internship classroom and individual learner characteristics. Primary focus of the course is on applying core content and classroom experiences from previous semesters to the learners in the internship classroom in order to design significant, challenging, and appropriate unit goals, instruction, and assessments.
