Description: This course includes a study of the characteristics of young children with special needs, birth to age three service delivery models, and school-based service delivery models as well as a study of Response to Intervention models for K-2 settings. Prerequisites: EDCO 101, ELEM, ECED, or HDFS major. Notes: A grade of "C" or better is required, and this course cannot be taken as S/U. Offered in fall, spring, and summer.

Description: This methods course will focus on developmentally and age-appropriate instruction for mathematics in grades Pk-6. It includes a study of standards, curriculum, methods, materials, activities, assessment, research, and current philosophy of mathematics education for the early childhood and elementary student. Observation and participation in a PK-6 classroom are required. Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education, MATH 291, 292. Corequisite: EDCI 361, EDCI 362. Notes: A grade of "C" or better must be earned and credit cannot be taken as S/U. Offered in fall and spring.

Description: The course emphasizes the developmental nature of gifted learners and their related learning characteristics and needs. The origins and nature of varying conceptions of giftedness are explored in relationship to appropriate educational services via the differentiated education for gifted learners. Notes: Offered in fall, spring, and summer. Previously offered as EDUC594. Prerequisite: 2.75 GPA; not open to freshmen.

Description: The course content includes an understanding of both the theoretical and practical implementation of the appropriate curricular and instructional approaches for gifted learners. Description: Using videos and vignettes, students develop and implement observation and analysis skills in the context of culturally responsive instructional practice, critical thinking and reflection, and the impact of teachers on classroom environment and climate. Notes: A grade of C or higher is required for Teacher Education majors/minors. This course cannot be taken for S/U credit. Offered in fall, spring, and summer. Course was formerly offered as EDUC 101. Lab Fee: $155.
