    Description: A study of the structural and functional attributes of common freshwater habitats of South Carolina, including interactions at population, community, and ecosystem scales. Prerequisite: BIOL 203, 204, 205, and 206, OR BIOL 220, 221, 222 or 270, and 223 or 271; BIOL 300; CHEM 105 and 108; MATH 101, 150, or 151 or any MATH course with a MATH 150 or 151 prerequisite; students must have a minimum grade of C- or S in all of the listed BIOL courses taken and in CHEM 105 and 108.     Description: A study of the ordered processes by which living systems, from cells to multicellular organisms, become structurally and functionally organized. Prerequisite: BIOL 203, 204, 205, and 206, OR BIOL 220, 221, 222 or 270, and 223 or 271; BIOL 300; CHEM 105 and 108; MATH 101, 150, or 151 or any MATH course with a MATH 150 or 151 prerequisite; students must have a minimum grade of C- or S in all of the listed BIOL courses taken and in CHEM 105 and 108. Notes: Lab Fee: $50. Offered in spring of odd years.

    Description: An undergraduate seminar course in which a book or series of research papers will be read and discussed with reference to important current issues in biology. Notes: A grade of S or U is recorded. May be retaken for credit a maximum of three times when different topics and reading materials are taught. Offered as needed. Prerequisites: BIOL 220 and 221, 222 or 270, 223 or 271; BIOL 300; CHEM 105 or 202 or 211, and CHEM 108 or 204; MATH 101, 150, or 151 or any MATH course with MATH 150 or 151 as a prerequisite; students must have a minimum grade of C- or S in all of the listed BIOL and CHEM courses taken.

Notes: Credit will not be allowed for both BIOL 461 and BIOL 463, but students may gain up to three hours of course credit by either taking BIOL 461 (up to three times) or BIOL 463 once. A grade of S or U is recorded for these courses. Offered in fall, spring, and summer. Prerequisites: Open only to students majoring in biology with a GPA of 2.5 in both major and overall. Prior approval from the Experiential Learning Coordinator and Department Chair is required.
