VCOM 325: Illustration: Portraiture (3:1:4).

Description: The human face in portraiture will be examined. Includes investigation of traditional portrait painting as well as creative and expressive directions which can be shown in the genre. Notes: Lab Fee: $90. Course offered only in Spring of alternate years. Lab fees may be used to offset drawing sessions requiring compensated models. Prerequisites: DESF 300. All VCOM studios numbered above 300 have a prerequisite of the successful completion of the specialization portfolio review or permission of the Chair of the Department of Design.

Description: Character design is a storytelling art in which every visual element used by an artist is a storytelling devise, from the costumes to the portraiture of real and imagined characters. As a result, the thorough knowledge of the narrative arts is imperative to succeed in the highly competitive field of the character design. The goal of this class is two-fold: on one hand you will be learning how to deliver high quality character designs for the stories originated by your future employers, while at the same time, you will be learning what you need to master in order to develop and design your own stories. Pre-requisites: Illustration Major or Minor, DESF 101, VCOM 151, and VCOM 258. Notes: Course offered spring of alternating years; lab fees may be used to offset materials and/or models.
