Description: This course focuses on movement education as a tool for enhancing cognitive, physical, and social development for the young child (birth to -8). Emphasis will be on acquiring a basic understanding of developmentally appropriate motor programming for young children and teaching strategies which enable young learners to develop fundamental gross and fine motor skills. Attention will be given to the importance of integrating movement across the curriculum to enhance physical, cognitive and social development. Notes: Offered in fall and spring.

Description: This course is designed to present information concerning fundamental concepts in motor learning and control. Topics include stages of skill acquisition, neurological bases of movement, motor integration, feedback, motor memory, conditions of practice, attention, perception, and the scientific method. Students will apply theoretical concepts to human movement. Notes: Offered in fall and spring.

Description: A participation course of movement and fitness activities based on movement concepts and skill themes. This course is designed to provide elementary education teachers with a fundamental understanding of fitness concepts and developmentally appropriate movement lessons for children 6-12 years of age. Notes: Lab Fee: $20. Offered in fall and spring.

Description: Students will learn to read, interpret, and write research in health and physical education, athletic training, exercise/fitness, and sports management. Notes: Intensive Writing course. Restricted to ATRN, EXSC, PHED and SPMA majors. Offered in fall and spring. Prerequisites: Junior status, Cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Description: This course is designed to provide field experiences to the junior and senior coaching minor student. The 40 hour experience will be in a coaching setting with a focus on preparing and supervising athletes in all areas of sport competition. Notes: A grade of S or U is recorded. Offered each fall, spring, and summer. Lab Fee: $20. Prerequisites: Nine hours completed in the coaching minor, CPR/AED certification, and permission from the coaching minor coordinator.

Description: This course is designed to allow upper level students in one of the PESH majors the opportunity to complete an elective independent research project or an additional practicum experience. Enrollment in the course requires a recommendation from the advisor and permission of the department chair. Notes: Offered on demand. Prerequisites: Admission to one of the majors in PESH.
