Description: This course will introduce progressive climbing techniques and extend an opportunity to learn technical skills necessary to establish and manage indoor-based belay systems in both top roping and basic lead climbing applications. Class sessions will focus on a survey of basic skills to include knot-tying, rope handling/care, equipment inspection and application, belay techniques, and use of intermediate climbing techniques. Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in PESH 168 or demonstration of requisite skill per discretion of the instructor. Notes: Offered in spring and fall terms. Lab fee: $125.

Description: This course will provide students with the fundamental paddling and rescue skills needed for flat-water kayaking day trips. There will be trips taken off campus to meet class requirements. Students will identify and practice fundamental wellness skills. Students must demonstrate beginning level swimming skills. Notes: Lab Fee: $150. A grade of S or U is recorded for this course. The entire class is held over the course of a single weekend during the respective semester. Offered in spring. Prerequisites: Students must demonstrate beginning level swimming skills.

Description: This course is designed to introduce basic principles in outdoor recreation through instruction and involvement in specific recreational pursuits. Introduction to and participation in hiking, backpacking, and whitewater rafting are included. Camping trip is required. Notes: Additional Fee: $200. A grade of S or U is recorded. Offered in spring.

Description: This course introduces basic principles in outdoor recreation through instruction and involvement in adventure-based pursuits in an international setting. Multi-day trip is required. Notes: Offered in spring periodically.

Description: An experience in the basic fundamentals of fly fishing. Opportunities are given for skill and knowledge development and for participation in fly fishing. Students will be introduced to equipment, casting techniques, entomology, water reading, fly selection, knot tying, risk management, fishing strategies, and fly tying. Notes: Offered in fall. Lab Fee: $200.

Description: In this survey course, students will participate in a variety of cycling disciplines, including Touring, Mountain Biking, BMX, Track, and Road/Criterium. Students will learn how to perform basic bicycle maintenance and identify and address common mechanical issues. Prerequisite: Students must be able to ride a bicycle. Notes: Bicycles and helmets are provided. All course meetings will be held off campus. Offered in fall.
