Practical application of all harmonic materials at the keyboard. Creative writing in small structures. Form and analysis and arranging. The student will experience the great wealth of hymns, anthems, oratorios, and other sacred music from the direct and simple to the most ornate and complex. The student will become familiar with the history of sacred music from its origins in the Old Testament and Gregorian Chant to twentieth century Black Gospel style by listening to representative works from each period of music history.
