    This two-part clinical is designed to immerse teacher candidates to the classroom environment in South Carolina and an area outside of the mainland United States. Part 1 of this clinical requires candidates to design and implement lessons across all disciplines during full-time placement in a South Carolina school. Part 2 of this clinical takes place outside the mainland United States. Candidates will explore developmental and cultural views of childhood, curriculum content, instructional delivery methods, and the role of the school within the community. Candidates will serve as an instructional assistant in a local area classroom during the international enhanced teaching experience. Additional fees may be charged for this clinical and students are responsible for all transportation costs. Prerequisites: Candidate level status and successful completion of EDUC 429 with a grade of "B" or better. One to eleven semester hours. Prerequisite:    EDUC 429

    This course is designed to give students practical work experience in a field related to their major. A student will work through an approved agency or business under the supervision of one of its professional employees and a faculty member in the major department. Completion of this course does not qualify students for teacher certification recommendation. Prerequisite: 45 semester hours in the major area and/or permission of the department chair. Dependent upon availability of suitable positions. One-half to twelve semester hours.

    EDUC 491.INTERNSHIP II This course is designed to give students intensive practical work experience in a field related to their major. A student will work through an approved agency or business under the supervision of one of its professional employees and a faculty member in the major department. Prerequisite: 45 credit hours in the major area and/or permission of the department chair. Dependent upon availability of suitable positions. Six to twelve credit hours.
  • 1.00 Credits

    The purpose of this course is to conduct seminars reviewing and reinforcing specific aspects of the teaching/learning process with student teachers. This course will follow a true seminar format. Many topics and matters of concern within the profession of teaching will be studies, analyzed and debated. Corequisite: EDUC 461. One semester hour.     This course, open only to graduate students in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program, involves observation, participation and supervised teaching in the public schools. It also includes a series of seminars dealing with issues in effective teaching. Prerequisite: Acceptance into MAT graduate degree program, completion of ART 600, ART 611, ART 621, ART 630, ART 653, EDUC 622, and passing scores on PRAXIS II tests required for certification. Graded pass/fail. Twelve credit hours.

    The course will provide a broad overview of program and issues involving various aspects of schooling as they relate to the needs of society. The students will explore social, multicultural, economic, and political problems that American education is expected to ameliorate. The student will also study the history, philosophy, organization, and operation of schools, along with a consideration of the teacher's role. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the MAT graduate degree program. Three semester hours.
