This course provides recreational therapy students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in an environment in which learning is the chief objective. Under the guidance of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), the student applies the recreational therapy clinical process (APIED process), and theories, concepts, philosophies and techniques acquired in the classroom. As is required by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), recreational therapy internships are 560 hours long (typically 40 hours a week for 14 weeks). In order to maximize the professional development of the student, the internship should encompass as many aspects of the facility operations as possible. Preq: Minimum of 2.0 GPA; junior or senior standing in Clemson University Recreational Therapy concentration; grade of Pass for PRTM 2060 and PRTM 2070; grade of C or better in all 2000- and 3000-level required Recreational Therapy courses; and, if completing internship in spring semester of senior year, PRTM 4220 and PRTM 4260 with a grade of C or better.
