A course which builds upon the health-related vocabulary and grammar proficiency developed in SPAN 310 by way of an in-depth consideration of Spanish language primary sources taken from various medical and health related disciplines-both contemporary and historical. A course specifically designed for Spanish heritage language learners who have had preexisting contact with Spanish, and who wish to further develop their oral and written skills in a variety of academic and professional contexts through materials and activities specifically designed for heritage language learners and their fields of study and professional interests. In addition to the refinement of linguistic skills, the course explores current events in the US, Latin America, and Spain of interest to US Hispanics/Latinos.

This course prepares students for complex cross-cultural communication in the Hispanic business world, emphasizing real-life use of oral and written Spanish needed by future managers and leaders making informed decisions. Cultural awareness and business terminology will be further developed. Strategies for negotiating meaning and responding to new information will be reinforced through challenging role-plays, news analysis, letter writing.
