Political, economic, social, and governmental influences on telecommunications. Examines contemporary issues that confront media today and the ethics surrounding them. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; senior standing. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Instruction and practice in reporting, writing, and producing in-depth broadcast news stories. Emphasizes investigative techniques, interviewing, and strategies for finding information from public records and databases. Assignments designed for use in campus electronic media programs. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses, and NEWS 202. Open only to approved telecommunications majors or minors.

Advanced instruction and practice in online news writing and reporting emphasizing interactive, multimedia elements and non-linear storytelling. Hands-on experience with Web authoring software in a laboratory setting. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; NEWS 202. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Gathering, writing, producing, and presenting television news programs. Discussion of current events; evaluation of station newscasts; on-air production of typical news programs. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; NEWS 202. Explores the history and application of multi-channel sound recording and exhibition in the recording, film, broadcast, and Internet industries. Provides specialized production experiences in surround sound composition, recording, editing, and exhibition techniques. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 333. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Complex story-telling techniques will be discussed and produced. Finding the unusual story in the usual place. Shooting coverage, use of music, and advanced post-production techniques will be covered. All students will be required to produce multiple stories. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 334. Open only to approved telecommunications majors or minors.

Introduces the process required to direct and produce the short digital film. Emphasizes communication with actors and camera blocking. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; permission of the instructor. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Motion graphic design for television and multimedia explored through 2-D computer animation and digital compositing. Areas of inquiry include: behavior based animation, interactive filtering and effects, natural phenomena simulation, particle effects, motion masking, motion title creation, and cross application integration. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; junior standing. Open only to approved telecommunications majors in production or multimedia options.

Problems and responsibility of management in the telecommunications industry. Consists largely of guest lecturers, class discussion, management role playing, and computer projects to become familiar with administrative practices in the industry. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; senior standing. Not open to students who have credit in TCOM 354. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Advanced investigation of interactive multimedia design based upon known human-computer interaction principles. Interactivity design analyzed on many levels: interface layout, input control, messaging behavior, and metaphor selection. Includes the creation of a CD-ROM incorporating interactive objects as design elements. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 351. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.
