Prerequisite: graduate standing and Economics 5102. Macroeconomic analysis of the global environment of business and its impact on management decision making. The course analyzes the extent, character, and consequences of globalization with emphasis on how any economy operates in the aggregate to affect real output, unemployment, the price level, interest rates, business cycles, economic growth, foreign exchange rates, trade patterns, international financial flows and foreign investment through its fiscal, monetary, and exchange stabilization and trade policies. Covers introductory probability, decision analysis, basic statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression, simulation, linear and nonlinear optimization, and discrete optimization. Computer spreadsheet exercises, cases, and examples drawn from marketing, finance, operations management, and other management functions. Provides a broad look at the fundamentals (political, cultural, regulatory, weather, legal and environmental) of world energy supply and demand, detailed study of the complete value chain for all commodities including a look at existing and emerging strategies for refining and marketing power options, and an understanding of the technology drivers for the energy industry and the roles of various energy professionals. Provides an overview of (A) federal and state regulatory law in the US affecting natural gas and oil producers and developers, interstate and intrastate pipelines, gas and power marketing companies, and power generating and transmission companies, and (B) the major accounting and tax issues affecting the energy industry.
