Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the instructor. This course focuses on the study of the trans-Mississippi west as seen through the eyes of photographers from the early 19th century up to the present. The purpose of this course will primarily be to study Euro-American photographic conventions, traditions, and styles and how they have been employed in defining American western history, culture and native peoples as fact, artistic motif and myth.
