Prerequisite: graduate standing and 5702. This is the first of a two-course sequence examining organizational consulting (the other being 5743). The course has two principal goals. First, it is designed to introduce students to the skills needed to be effective at consulting as either an external management consultant or as an employee working inside a company. In particular, students will be introduced to the basics of management consulting (internal and external), including understanding the phases of the consulting cycle, tailoring consulting approaches to various situations, and conducting meetings and working in teams with clients. Second, it seeks to introduce students to consulting as an industry and a potential career choice. Overall, then, the course is designed to provide a framework for understanding the art and science of providing management counsel to client organization in the public and private sector. (Irreg.)
