Offers a multidisciplinary approach to the social, economic, and political aspects of environmental change in sub-Saharan Africa. Explores the utility of social science and historical analyses for understanding long-term changes in the region's environment. Concerned with the way the idea of development has been conceptualized and applied in the region in the last 100 or so years.
