MUSP 607: Seminar in Choral Conducting

Choral conducting majors will register in each semester of full-time enrollment. Course work will be in small-group format with one of the choral faculty in the College of Musical Arts. Course content will consist of individual conducting lessons and discussion of various conducting points such as: seating; voicing; repertoire styles and colors; warm ups; vocal techniques and tone; balance and blend; and the like. Students' work in various ensembles, including work on current repertoire, in sectionals, and in preparation for their culminating recital, will serve as material for the sessions.

Individual study in applied music. A fee is assessed for individual instruction. A student enrolled for applied music has access to practice rooms and equipment, in accordance with schedules and regulations established by the College of Musical Arts. Applied instruction is a limited enrollment course, with registration priority given to students in the performance option for whom applied study is a degree requirement. Others accommodated on a space-available basis and must confer with the appropriate applied faculty member by the end of the first week of classes. Consent of instructor may be required for registration for more than one credit hour. Extra fee.
