A survey of domestic violence in the US focusing on female experience as both victim and survivor of partner abuse. We will evaluate theories of partner violence, examine types of abuse across diverse female lifespans, and discuss multicultural and gender expectations, treatment, modalities, and social policy implications. This course will discuss body image through varying perspectives: size discrimination, advertising and consumerism, eating disorders, cosmetic surgery, self-image/male gaze, health vs. beauty, etc. All perspectives will be examined as they are projected across the intersection of sexism, racism, classism, ageism and sexuality.
