Emphasis is placed on historical background, cultural context, and literary analysis of selected prose, poetry, and drama. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret, analyze, and respond to literary works in their historical and cultural contexts. Emphasis is placed on historical and cultural context, themes, literary traditions, and backgrounds of the authors. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferability as a pre-major and/or elective course requirement.

Topics include history, evolution, statistics, suppression, organizations, careers, curriculum, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the fire protection field.

Topics include the development and maintenance of fire prevention programs, educational programs, and inspection programs. Upon completion, students should be able to research, develop, and present a fire safety program to a citizens or industrial group, meeting NFPA 1021.

    Prerequisite(s): None Corequisite(s): None This course covers procedures for determining the origin and cause of accidental and incendiary fires. Topics include collection and preservation of evidence, detection and determination of accelerants, courtroom procedure and testimony, and documentation of the fire scene. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct a competent fire investigation and present those findings to appropriate officials or equivalent, meeting NFPA 1021.

Topics include types of construction and related elements, fire resistive aspects of construction materials, building codes, collapse, and other related topics.     Prerequisite(s): None Corequisite(s): None This course covers the fundamentals of fire and building codes and procedures to conduct an inspection. Topics include review of fire and building codes, writing inspection reports, identifying hazards, plan reviews, site sketches, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct a fire code compliance inspection and produce a written report, meeting NFPA 1021.

    Prerequisite(s): FIP 124 or FIP 132 or FIP 136 or FIP 152 or FIP 164 Corequisite(s): None This course introduces various types of automatic sprinklers, standpipes, and fire alarm systems. Topics include wet or dry systems, testing and maintenance, water supply requirements, fire detection and alarm systems, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of various sprinkler and alarm systems and required inspection and maintenance.
