The study of atomic theory, chemical bonding, elemental periodicity, nomenclature, and physical properti es in relati on to structure are the major topics covered in this course. The course is designed for pre-professional and science majors. Concurrent enrollment in CH 114AL (laboratory) is required. This is a four credit hour course.

This course is a conti nuati on of CH214. The preparati on and reacti ons of functi onal groups and multi -step synthesis are the topics for the semester. Concurrent enrollment in CH 224L (laboratory) is required. This is a four credit hour course. Prerequisite: CH 214 NOTE: The following courses are taught through the Correcti ons Academy. These courses will substi tute for the criminal justi ce courses (CJ) as indicated when applying for the Associate of Arts or Associates of Applied Science degrees. However, the criminal justi ce courses (CJ) will not substi tute for the correcti ons academy courses (CA), since the CA courses have additi onal components not in the CJ courses to meet the requirements for licensure by the state of New Mexico as a correcti onal offi cer.

This course will explain the development and philosophy of criminal justi ce in a democrati c society and an introducti on to agencies involved in the administrati on of criminal justi ce. Discussion will include the goals of the police, history of the criminal justi ce system, how the system functi ons within the context of government to protect individual rights as well as consti tuti onally imposed restricti ons on the system. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will explain the history of criminal law, the principles of criminal procedure, and the essenti al components of consti tuti onal, statutory, and common law. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will explain the history of the courts, as well as the organizati on, structure, and jurisdicti on of the judicial system. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will explain the organizati on, functi ons, and jurisdicti on of juvenile agencies. Discussion includes the juvenile court and justi ce system, historical development of the concept of delinquency, the special status of juveniles under the law, and special att enti on to juvenile justi ce procedural law under the Children's Code and Rules of Procedure. This is a three credit hour course.

It is an examinati on of the broad spectrum of systems, processes, and people that consti tute the fi eld of correcti ons. Whenever possible, practi cal orientati on to the fi eld of correcti ons will be explored. This is a three credit hour course.

This course is an introducti on in the study of law enforcement and policing in America. It will explore diversity and criti cally evaluate the directi on and trends in modern police agencies. The student will become familiar with the names, phrases, and concepts that are routi nely used by those in the study of crime and the workings of the criminal justi ce system.
