This course covers the principles of successful business. Topics included are how to start and maintain a small business, cash and asset management, management of account receivables, gross margin return on investment analysis, the legal environment, and developing a pricing strategy. Calculati ons and assignments are to be done with the computer; electronic spreadsheet-no computer class required. This is a three credit hour course.

This course covers the need for research, sample sizes, types of samples, and data collecti on. Students will analyze and interpret data through data collecti on, summarizing data, and data presentati on; hypothesis testi ng, regression, and correlati on; random variables, and probability densiti es. Computer applicati ons will include T-Tests, simple linear regressions and correlati ons. The course will conclude with an overview of business applicati ons, how stati sti cs are used in society and their importance. (This course will not fulfi ll the mathemati cs requirements for the AA or AS degrees.) This is a three credit hour course. Prerequisite: MA 113A

This course is designed to enhance the basic correcti on offi cer's level of fi tness, as well as develop an understanding of wellness as it relates to correcti ons. This class will include demonstrati on, discussion, and parti cipati on. Periodic fi tness assessments and strength, cardiovascular, and fl exibility training will be incorporated into this class. Additi onally concepts covering nutriti on and safety will be covered. The student will be required to perform sati sfactorily on the fi nal fi tness tests and agility courses for state certi fi cati on as a correcti ons offi cer. Co-requisite: Enrollment in the Correcti ons Academy. This is a one credit hour course.

This introductory course is designed to acquaint individuals with the role of correcti ons in America. It is an examinati on of the broad spectrum of systems, processes and people that consti tute the fi eld of correcti ons. Whenever possible, practi cal orientati on to the fi eld of correcti ons will be explored. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will cover basic shooti ng principles used by correcti onal offi cer and will include instructi on in nomenclature, handling, loading and fi ring of the service revolver, rifl e, shotgun, and 37 mm gas gun. Lawful use of chemical agents including identi fi cati on, coding, delivery and decontaminati on procedures will be covered. This is a three credit hour course.

This course examines the interpersonal skills needed by correcti ons offi cials to understand and eff ecti vely interact with the incarcerated society. Community relati ons and courtesies are addressed with emphasis given to communicati on with the convicted off ender. Report writi ng instructi on will include interviews, statement taking, note taking and fi nal reports. Radio and telephone communicati on will include practi cal exercises as appropriate. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will provide students with an overview of basic chemistry, chemistry of water treatment, chemical hazards, and chemistry of basic enrichment processes. This is a three credit hour course.
