This course uti lizes a body systems approach to address the physiological, psychological (mental health), social, spiritual, and cultural considerati ons of medical-surgical, maternal, and newborn nursing. The course concepts are presented by uti lizing the nursing process as it applies to clients across the lifespan with alterati ons or health care needs related to disorders of the following systems: respiratory, cardiac, hematological, integument, gastrointesti nal, renal, immune, endocrine, neurological, and reproducti ve. The course will focus on the student nurse role as a health care team member in the provision and planning of legal, ethical, safe, and eff ecti ve nursing care for individuals, families, and groups. This course includes a laboratory component with campus laboratory hours (which may include simulati on) and clinical learning experiences at local health care agencies. This course is designed to assist the licensed practi cal/vocati onal nurse transiti on from the role of LPN/LVN to the role of the associate degree nursing student. The course uti lizes a body systems approach to address the physiological, psychological (mental health), social, spiritual, and cultural considerati ons of nursing care for medical-surgical nursing across the lifespan, mental health nursing, and maternal/newborn nursing. The course concepts are presented by uti lizing the nursing process as it applies to clients across the lifespan with alterati ons or health care needs related to disorders of the following systems: respiratory, cardiac, hematological, gastrointesti nal, renal, immune, endocrine, neurological, and reproducti ve. Course concepts will address pharmacology, dosage calculati ons, nutriti on, and growth and development. The course will focus on the student nurse role as a health care team member in the provision and planning of legal, ethical, safe, and eff ecti ve nursing care for individuals, families, and groups. The student will be responsible for meeti ng a set score on a nati onally standardized PN Comprehensive exam for conti nuati on in the program and eligibility for admission to Level II of the nursing program. This course is a conti nuati on of NU 128. The course uti lizes a body systems approach to address the physiological, psychological (mental health), social, spiritual, and cultural considerati ons of nursing care for clients with multi ple, complex, and specifi c health care needs/problems. The course concepts are presented by uti lizing the nursing process as it applies to the criti cally ill clients, the mental health clients, and the high-risk maternal/ newborn clients. The course concepts will focus on disorders related to fl uid and electrolyte imbalances, respiratory, cardiac, neurological, renal, immune, and endocrine systems, and the planning, provision, and evaluati on of safe eff ecti ve nursing care for mental health, high-risk maternal / newborn, and medical-surgical clients. Concepts of emergency and mass casualty nursing will be addressed as it applies to the planning, provision, and evaluati on of nursing care for individuals, families, and groups. A variety of community and acute care clinical experiences will be uti lized in this course. This course includes a laboratory component with campus laboratory hours and clinical learning experiences at local and out-of-town health care agencies. This is a nine credit hour course. This course is designed to facilitate the review of nursing theory to assist the student in preparing for the NCLEX-RN exam. This course uti lizes a body systems approach to address the physiological, psychological (mental health), social, spiritual, and cultural considerati ons of nursing care for clients with multi ple, complex, and specifi c health care needs/problems. The course content will review medical-surgical nursing, mental health nursing, and maternal/newborn nursing as it applies to lifespan health care needs/ problems of individuals, families, groups, and communiti es. The course content will also review nursing calculati ons, pharmacological, and nutriti onal concepts. This is a two credit hour course. Prerequisites: NU 219, PC 212 Co-requisites: NU 225, NU 223.

This course will provide students with the opportunity to transiti on from student nurse to graduate nurse through an internship experience. The internship role provides the student the opportunity to demonstrate accountability for self, individuals, families, and groups while eff ecti vely directi ng and coordinati ng legal, ethical, safe, eff ecti ve, and competent nursing care. The internship role provides the student nurse with the opportunity to exhibit professional behavior in all acti viti es, to provide clinically competent nursing care, and to practi ce as a collaborati ng member of a multi disciplinary health care team. This experience will allow the student to demonstrate competencies of natural and behavioral sciences and nursing theory in the development, implementati on, and evaluati on of plans of care in meeti ng the complex health care needs of individuals, families, groups, and communiti es. The student will have the opportunity to demonstrate communicati on, criti cal thinking, and problem-solving competencies while functi oning in a variety of nursing roles. This course is a laboratory course composed of clinical learning experiences at local and out-of-town health care agencies. This is a three credit hour course. This course addresses the concepts of legal-ethical issues and trends in nursing practi ce, community health nursing, and the role of the registered nurse as a collaborati ng member of a multi disciplinary health care team. The course focuses on the student's development as a leader, designer, manager, and coordinator of legal, ethical, safe, and eff ecti ve nursing care. The course provides the opportunity for the student to plan, direct, and coordinate nursing care based on current standards of practi ce. The clinical learning experiences are conducted in a variety of community and acute care clinical agencies. This course includes a laboratory component with campus laboratory hours (which may include simulati on) and clinical learning experiences at local and out-of-town health care agencies. This is a fi ve credit hour course. Prerequisites: NU 219, PC 212 Co-requisites: NU 223, NU 222.

This course provides students with opportuniti es to learn and apply the principles of pharmacology, medicati on administrati on and dosage calculati ons. This course addresses major therapeuti c drug groups and their eff ects on body systems. The following body systems will be covered in this class: central and autonomic nervous systems, cardiovascular, digesti ve, immune, integument, hematopoieti c, respiratory, and endocrine systems. The course will relate drug groups used to treat common disorders of the body systems. Clinically relevant informati on will be presented uti lizing the nursing process, principles of drug therapy, nursing acti ons, and client teaching guidelines. This is a two credit hour course. Prerequisite courses are PC 113 and NU 119 Co-requisite course is NU 128

This course uti lizes a body systems approach to address major drug groups and their eff ects on multi ple systems of the body. The course will relate pharmacological interventi ons to address the multi ple, complex, and specifi c health care needs/problems of the criti cally ill client. Course concepts focus on pharmacological interventi ons and drug groups related to intravenous medicati ons, blood administrati on, and medicati ons aff ecti ng the following systems: central and autonomic nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, and endocrine. Other medicati ons to be discussed are hematopoiesis psychotherapeuti cs, and neoplasti cs. This is a two credit hour course. Prerequisites: PC 113, PC 122, NU 119, NU 128 Co-requisite: NU 219

This course will provide students with the basic knowledge of the theory and applicati on of resistance temperature sensors. The student will be introduced to the basic functi ons of temperature detectors, the basic theory of thermocouple operati on, the identi fi cati on of logic circuits, and environmental concerns that can aff ect the accuracy of temperature detecti on instrumentati on. This is a two credit hour course. (This does not count as a lab science course.)
