This course will cover procedures (principles, concepts, medical implicati on and practi cal applicati on) for custody and control and use of chemical agents in a law enforcement environment. Also covered will be academic and practi cal applicati on regarding offi cer safety including day and night traffi c stops, arrest situati ons, and handcuffi ng. This is a four credit hour course.

This course provides basic knowledge in the nature of technical writi ng as it applies to police reports and documentati on. The course will also provide the student with clear and concise techniques and procedures to eff ecti vely prepare for and testi fy in civil and / or criminal court proceedings. This is a one credit hour course.

This course will review theories and basic techniques of accident investi gati on: what the vehicle shows, examinati on of the roadway, recording and preservati on of skid mark evidence, speed esti mates, reconstructi on of the accident scene, diagram and map making, photographing the accident scene, background investi gati on, court testi mony and study of the New Mexico vehicle code. This is a three credit hour course.

This is a course involving basic patrol concepts including high risk and unknown risk patrol tacti cs, handling special needs individuals, domesti c violence, disorderly conduct, public disturbances, intoxicati on, vehicle/foot patrol and observati on. Also, topics covered include basic techniques for arrest/custody, supervision, and transportati on of prisoners, handling crimes in progress, preliminary investi gati ons, conduct at crime scenes, and offi cer survival. This is a three credit hour course.

This course focuses on the fundamentals of criminal investi gati on. It includes conduct at crime scenes, collecti on and preservati on of evidence, interviews and interrogati ons, crime scene photography and sketching, and report writi ng. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will concentrate on substanti ve criminal law, general rules, principles, and doctrines of criminal liability in the United States; and classifi cati ons of crimes against persons, property, and the public welfare. This is a three credit hour course.

This course is an in-depth study of the Code of Professional Responsibility, legal ethics and necessary requirements for the paralegal to properly functi on in the modern law offi ce. Emphasis will be upon legal ethical considerati on, disciplinary rules for att orneys, and the relati onship of the paralegal to the supervising att orney, the client and the community. This is a two credit hour course.

This course focuses on the history and overview of the legal system including the role of the legal assistant; legal ethics; unauthorized practi ce; the Code of Professional Responsibility; importance of communicati ons, judgment, and analyti cal ability; terminology sources; and work of law. This is a three credit hour course.

This course is a study of legal research and bibliography, research problems, sources, legal draft ing and writi ng, and preparati on of memoranda and briefs. This is a three credit hour course.
