This course will introduce the student to the role, functi ons, mission and operati ons of community colleges. Topics to be covered include the history of community colleges, local college operati ons, funding, adult learning theories, reports, and customer service. This course is for the professional employees at New Mexico Junior College. This is a two credit hour course.

This course will answer questi ons associated with child guidance and discipline. Current theory will be discussed, which will assist students in developing skills and avoiding common pitf alls. This course will provide a comprehensive framework for interpreti ng children's social behavior and for implementi ng appropriate strategies to enhance children's social competence. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will help students learn to develop, implement, and evaluate early childhood educati on curriculum (birth-eight years old). Topics will include setti ngs, methods, materials, scheduling, planning, and classroom management. Lessons plans and projects will be developed for the content fi elds (such as reading/writi ng, math, social studies, science) using art, music, drama, play, explorati on, games, and various strategies. This is a three credit hour course. Co-requisite: ED 112A

This course will explore ways to encourage family involvement and community collaborati on to promote the success and development of young children (birth - eight years old). Awareness of various types of family stress, understanding of the dynamics of family systems, and community relati onships will be discussed. This is a three credit hour course.

2.00 Credits
Students will work with children (birth-eight years old) in implementi ng the acti viti es and curriculum designed in ED 223C, Curriculum Development & Implementati on II. They will observe and assess their assigned students' development and modify curriculum as needed. Professional ethics will be demonstrated at all ti mes. Students will work with children for a minimum of 60 hours over the semester. This is a two credit hour course. Corequisite: ED 223C

This course will introduce students to the professional life of teachers. Throughout the book, the authors and the teachers profi led off er students practi cal perspecti ves for meeti ng the complex challenges of teaching. Students will be encouraged to write a research paper and develop a professional portf olio. This is a three credit hour course.

Students in this course will develop knowledge of diverse assessment approaches, including observati onal skills. The student will use appropriate on-going documentati on and report informati on to families and professionals. Appropriate early childhood assessment is responsive to cultural and linguisti c diff erence. It includes informati on from multi ple sources, e.g. observati ons, checklists, interviews, and both formal and informal standardized measures in diverse setti ngs for making educati onal decisions about children. This is a three credit hour course.

This psychology course will provide the student with useful concepts and principles of educati onal psychology that can be used for upcoming or practi cing teachers. Throughout the book, the author off ers students practi cal perspecti ves for meeti ng the complex challenges of teaching and ways to apply various educati onal psychology concepts and principles for working with students in a classroom setti ng. This is a three credit hour course.

The foundati on for all learning is established during a child's early years and is built upon throughout childhood. Biological-physical, social, cultural, emoti onal, cogniti ve, and language domains are inherently intertwined in growth and development. Professionals working with children must understand this process of development and the adult's role in supporti ng each child's growth from birth onward. This is a three credit hour course.
