This course focuses on the theories and basic techniques of accident investi gati on: what the vehicle shows, examinati on of the roadway, recording and preservati on of skid mark evidence, speed esti mates, reconstructi on of the accident scene, diagram and map making, photographing the accident scene, background investi gati on, court testi mony, and study of the New Mexico vehicle code. This is a three credit hour course.

This is a course involving basic patrol concepts including high risk and unknown risk patrol tacti cs, handling special needs individuals, domesti c violence, disorderly conduct, public disturbances, intoxicati on, vehicle/ foot patrol, and observati on. Also, basic techniques for arrest/custody, supervision, transportati on of prisoners, handling crimes in progress, preliminary investi gati ons, conduct at crime scenes, and offi cer survival will be covered. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will identi fy the fundamentals of criminal investi gati on. It will include conduct at crime scenes, collecti on and preservati on of evidence, interviews and interrogati ons, crime scene photography and sketching, and report writi ng. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will concentrate on substanti ve criminal law, general rules, principles, and doctrines of criminal liability in the United States; and classifi cati ons of crimes against persons, property, and the public welfare. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will focus on the substanti ve provisions of the New Mexico Criminal Code with parti cular emphasis on those areas, which have proven to be the most common problem areas for the law enforcement community. This is a three credit hour course.

This course will emphasize the pharmacological properti es of abused drugs, common abuse patt erns, fi eld-testi ng, evidence requirements, and investi gati on techniques uti lized in narcoti cs and dangerous drug investi gati ons. This is a three credit hour course.

The vocati onal cosmetology course is designed to provide basic skills and knowledge that can lead to a career in Cosmetology. Instructi on will be provided in the following areas: Theory of Cosmetology, manicuring, pedicuring, permanent waving, shampooing and hair styling, scalp treatment, and facials. Applicati on of the skills att ained will be done in a cosmetology laboratory environment. The curriculum is performance based and introduces a variety of theory and related skill areas of cosmetology to prepare students for success in a working environment. Upon successful completi on of the ACT ACADEMY cosmetology classes, the student will have earned approximately 300 clock hours toward the 1600 clock hours needed for a New Mexico Junior College certi fi cate in Cosmetology. Prerequisite: A strong interest in the fi eld as an occupati onal choice. A good att endance history and a mature atti tude are required. The course syllabus meets the objecti ves of NMJC courses, COSM 132 Saniti zati on & Sterilizati on and COSM 142 Shampooing and Rinsing.

This course is a conti nuati on of CO 057. The course syllabus meets the objecti ves of NMJC course, COSM 115 Haircutti ng and COSM 232 Salon Business. Prerequisite: Successful completi on of CS 057 Cosmetology III. If the ACT ACADEMY students complete all four courses, 037, 047, 057, and 067 the course syllabi meet the objecti ves of NMJC course COSM 112 Theory I.
