Approved by Nebraska's Board of Advanced Emergency Medical Care for state certification as an EMT-D. This course allows EMT-Bs, upon successful completion, to use the defibrillator.

Designed to provide the existing EMT-A the ability to obtain the current revised skill and knowledge of the EMT-B. The transition course includes the new assessment based education and intervention. Must be an EMT-A110 Hr; CPR-AHA Healthcare provider, or ARC Professional Rescuer.

Designed for an existing Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who wishes to act as an EMS-Basic provider on a volunteer or paid rescue or transport service according to rules and regulations from Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure-EMS Division. Must be a current RN or LPN, current CPR (AHA or ARC), and successfully complete pretest.

7.50 Credits
Designed to instruct a student to the level of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. This includes all skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service. Students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam to obtain a Nebraska certificate of competency to practice in Nebraska.

1.00 Credits
This course includes certification in Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and covers techniques of rapid patient assessment, airway management, shock recognition and management, spinal immobilization, stabilization of fractures, kinematics, rapid extrication, geriatric trauma, pediatric trauma, thoracic and abdominal trauma, soft tissue trauma, trauma with pregnant patients, burns, crime scenes, and air evacuation. Students will receive a certificate for the National Association of EMS Providers. Must be a current EMT-A, EMT-Basic, or National Registry; current CPR (AHA or ARC), and successfully complete HLTH 1860. Student must be enrolled in the EMT-Intermediate program or has current EMT-Basic, Nebraska, or National Registry at EMT-Basic level.

A course, seminar, or workshop designed to meet the special interests of needs of an individual student or group of students when these interests or needs are not fulfilled by the regular course offerings of the department.

Students rotate through a variety of clinical settings including emergency departments, operating rooms, respiratory therapy, critical care units, and pediatric intensive care units. There is an emphasis on gaining an understanding of the hospital and how intermediates and paramedics from pre-hospital services or transfer services interact with this environment. There is also an emphasis on skills including patient assessment, airway management, endotracheal intubation, medication administration, and intravenous cannulation.

This practicum focuses on the practical application of emergency care in the field setting including scene management, patient assessment, treatment, communications, report writing, and communication with hospital and dispatch personnel. There is also an emphasis on the following skills: Patient assessment, airway management, endotracheal intubation, medication administration, intravenous cannulation, and working with the public.
