It is intended to be a journey from the starting point where a sound is produced in an instrument, to the overtones produced by the instrument, and ultimately through its reception and enjoyment in the mind. We will discuss the mathematical and physical basis for common musical scales and how musical instruments are designed to produce musical notes for these scales. This course is designed for students majoring in Music, Speech and Hearing, Audio Technology, and Telecommunications, as well as other students having a general interest in the physics of sound and music.
