In this introductory course, students will learn specifi c techniques, practical exercises, and methods from award winning playwrights. This course is designed to work with the basic building blocks of dramatic structure, explore character development, analyze the elements of good dialogue writing, research how to get plays published and explore marketing tools to make a play a best seller. The course includes candid exploration of famous plays. Staged readings of the student's original work from the class will be held during fi nals and open to the public.

The intent of Introduction to Stage Directing is to study the principles, procedures, and practices of stage direction. Students will learn how to select, analyze, and conceptualize a play script. They will learn how to research the text and develop a prompt book for rehearsal. They will learn the basics of staging through a variety of exercises in which they will direct and be directed by their classmates. Finally, they will cast, rehearse, and present a ten minute play of their choosing for public performance. Prerequisite: THR 115 and THR 120 with a grade of "C" or higher or DivisionChair's permission.

This course provides students an opportunity to review basic English language skills in preparation for college-level courses and employs a functional approach to grammar. Students learn the basics of punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure, and then apply what they have learned to their writing. Students enrolled in 100-level courses who need to review language skills are encouraged to enroll in this course as well. The class meets one time per week for 50 minutes, and additional outside work will be required. Enrollment is open until midterm, but it is suggested that students enroll by the fourth week of the semester. This course may be offered at other OTC campuses in a self-paced format.
