This course involves the discussion of various leadership styles and techniques, not only as an individual but as a team leader. It emphasizes the student's need for a variety of management skills, as the graduate prepares to work with the interdisciplinary needs of patient, family and staff. Guidelines for effective resumes, job interviews, and the preparation for the NCLEX comprise the other areas of concern of this course. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of theprevious nursing courses.

This course is an introduction to occupational therapy, its history, philosophies, values, and ethics. Life-style choices and work, play, and leisure as they relate to health and lifetime wellness and occupational therapy will be explored. The occupational therapy process and role delineation of various occupational therapy personnel will be explained. Activity analysis, medical terminology and Uniform Terminology will be introduced. Prerequisite: Admission into the OTA program.

This course is a study of biomechanical, neurological, and sensory components of human movement as required for life roles. Assessment, treatment and communication skills will be learned through extensive hands-on and problem solving activities. Prerequisite: Admission into the OTA program.

This course focuses on the principles of neurological development as they relate to the occupational therapy assistant practice. Concepts of neurological development and functioning, motor learning, refl ex development and integration, and the impact of illness and disease related to neurological defi cits will be covered. Prerequisite: Admission into the OTA program.

This course focuses on fundamental design and construction techniques for adaptation in areas of occupation. Personal adaptive equipment, assistive technologies and environmental adaptations will be explored. Topics include: basic splinting skills, care and fi tting of prosthetic devices, design of seating and positioning systems, and issues of community mobility and driving. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of the previous OTA required courses.

Early Development This course is an exploration of the physical, perceptual, cognitive and psychosocial developmental sequence from birth through late adolescence. Normal and abnormal development will be introduced along with occupational therapy evaluations and interventions. Family, social, and legal issues and support services for this population will be explored. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of the previous OTA required courses.

This course encompasses clinical observation in various settings as assigned by instructor. Students will be responsible for transportation and expenses related to this course. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of the previous OTArequired courses.

This course focuses on the psychosocial issues related to the practice of occupational therapy. The relevance of occupation and goal directed activity in mental health will be explained. Evaluation and treatment techniques for individuals and groups will be practiced. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of the previous OTA required courses.

Various types of therapeutic media as seen in occupational therapy service settings will be utilized. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their activity analysis, communication and professional behavior skills. Opportunities to conduct simulated individual and group treatment sessions will be provided. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher inall of the previous OTA required courses.

Physical Dysfunction This course is a study of physical dysfunction. Disease etiology, progression, and prognosis as related to occupational therapy practice will be covered. Theories of assessments and interventions will be demonstrated. Students will have the opportunity to utilize various types of adaptive equipment, assistive technology and strategies to adapt, compensate, or restore function. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or higher in all of the previous OTA required courses.
