This course is a comprehensive introduction to the specification of product and process using the standard technical graphic, sympolic, and textual language. Orthographic and pictorial projection, lettering, sketching, straightedge drawing, line work, modeling and visualization are taught early in the course and emphasized throughout.

This course covers advanced drafting techniques for mechanical design, detail and assembly drawings. Topics include motion diagrams, linkages, tolerance stacks, tolerances and fits, coordinate dimensioning for NC/CNC, springs, shaftings, keys, splines, couplings, seals, bearings, cams and followers, gears and gear trains, belt drives, and chain drives.

This course is an overview of team-based problem-solving and design including holistic system thinking, team types and dynamics, creativity and innovation, problem-solving processes, communication and negotiation, emerging design paradigms, elements of project management, and quality in the design process.

Some topics are the costs of accidents, worker's compensation, environmental safety, machine guarding, ergonomics and repetitive strain injuries, accident investigation and reporting, and regulatory bodies and sources of policy.
