This course is designed to provide beginning pipefitting students with fundamental knowledge of the use and care of tools necessary for the performance of trade responsibility. Special emphasis is given to the importance of recognizing job safety and health hazards. Topics include soldering and brazing, pressure gauge readings, regulation, adjustment and sizing of pipes, meters, values, strainers, regulators and related components. Students must register for a lecture and laboratory section.

This course includes theory and safety procedures. Students work to achieve competency in the following: shielding metal arc welding procedures, stringer beads, butt welds and lab welds in the flat and horizontal positions. Students also become familiar with oxyacetylene flame cutting equipment and its application. Students must register for a lecture and laboratory section.

This course provides preliminary training for keyboard transcription from dictated medical words, prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Emphasis is on the spelling of and pronunciation of the medical words and abbreviations and introductory transcription of basic medical records and written communications.

This course is a continuation of transcription concepts introduced in MAS 120 and covers the production of medical transcription at progressively advancing levels from dictated medical reports using word processing software.

This course introduces the coding skills required for basic medical coding in physicians' offices and other ambulatory care settings. Emphasis is placed on the structure and conventions of ICD diagnostic coding and CPT procedural coding, the correct process for selecting codes, and the types of coding errors to be avoided.

This course serves as the introductory course of the Administrative Medical Assistant program and covers medical office procedures related to medical assistant competencies, exploration of the roles of the health care team, office communications, appointment scheduling, written correspondence, office productivity, telephone techniques, patient preparation, as well as legal and ethical issues related to the health care field.

This course covers the practical application of financial procedures in the medical practice including medical computerized financial systems, insurance submission and reimbursement, patient billing, collections, banking procedures, ordering supplies and maintenance of tax records.
