This is an advanced course in medical terminology with emphasis placed on definitions of medical/pharmaceutical words as well as accurate spelling of medical and pharmaceutical terminology. Laboratory, X-ray, and pharmacology terminology will be explored in detail. Students will also have the opportunity to practice the pronunciations of medical and pharmacology terminology in a lab setting.

This advanced terminology course provides the student with practical applications of medical terminology using actual medical documents. Student will learn to recognize, understand, and research proper terminology usage, definitions, medical abbreviations, number usage, laboratory test values, pharmacology, and types of medical reports used in hospital and clinic settings. Use of reference materials will be highly stressed. Prerequisite: ADS 1300

This introductory course to medical transcription provides students an understanding of the various medical reports used, transcribing and formatting them into usable medical documents. Emphasis is directed toward accuracy, building speed, proofreading, correcting errors and quality and production management techniques. Transcription of advanced dictated medical material using word processing equipment into a variety of usable medical documents. Emphasis will be on building accuracy and speed, advanced editing, proofreading, and correcting errors. Prerequisite: ADS 1310 or instructor approval

This introductory course to medical office procedures provides the students an understanding of medical office careers, medical ethics, confidentiality, professional liability and medicolegal responsibilities. Topics covered to develop skill in performing typical medical office tasks include telephone techniques, appointment scheduling, patient records, alphabetic/numeric/color-coded filing, and written communications.

This course covers the rules and procedures for coding, indexing, filing, and retrieving medical documents in alphabetic, numeric, subject, and chronological systems. Legalities with release of medical information are highly stressed. Medical record management and control procedures are introduced along with a medical records simulation. This course covers the theory and application of design principles. The student will use software to enhance the readability of documents such as letterheads, business cards, personal documents, flyers, brochures, promotional documents, charts, transparencies, presentation material, and newsletters. This course covers project management from concept to completion. Learn to plan projects, establish timelines and budgets, monitor and control schedules. The topics of time management and teambuilding will be covered as they relate to project management. Microsoft Project 2000 will be used to make work more efficient and help in task and resource management.
