This course covers advanced topics in the use of the Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Students are given the skills they need to create forms for data entry, embed multimedia, use cascading style sheets for printing, and the use of JavaScript to enhance page function. Javascript code will be written by hand and then debugged and managed using Macromedia Dreamweaver. This course is based on the use of textbook study and hands-on structured labs assigned by the instructor. Prerequisite: MMDT 1021

This course provides an introduction to vector-based, image-editing, and publishing software used in the design fields. Students will learn the basics of creating vector and raster graphics, utilizing file formats, along with a basic understanding of page layout software.

The purpose of this course is to provide Multimedia Design students with a basic technical understanding of computer networking and the Internet. The course provides sufficient detail to enable students to understand, implement, and maintain websites on web servers, and also how to setup, configure, and troubleshoot client computers which connect to their websites.

Students learn the basics of information graphics, including diagrams, charts, graphs, maps, and sequences, utilizing the tools of Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphics program. A variety of drawing techniques, such as custom colors, gradients and patterns, layers, and type manipulations will be incorporated into the graphics.

Students are introduced to tools which create three-dimensional graphics, creating both images and animations. Students will discover the basic principles of 3-D design and types of images that can be created using 3-D software. Prerequisite: MMDT 1008

Students will learn the basics of Photoshop, the industry-standard software for image correction and enhancement. They will acquire competencies in image acquisition, selections, using tools and palettes, using layers, customizing the work environment, and using paths and filters. Prerequisite: MMDT 1008

Students learn techniques for page layout and design using QuarkXPress, page layout software of choice in the industry. Concepts include basic tools, text formatting and flow, graphics in corporation, style sheets and master pages. In addition Portable Document Format (PDF) will be introduced and used to create interactive PDF files.

Students will learn the basics of two-dimensional animation using Macromedia Director by creating cast members, backgrounds, using the score and creating simple navigation choices. Using a design approach, communication issues that are unique to information and interaction design will be explored. Prerequisite: MMDT 1008

Students will learn to visualize ideas and concepts, and to rapidly convert them to a simple sketch that can be used for thinking, learning, and communicating. More of a mental process than a physical one, positive reinforcement is provided to the student to prove that ideas can be easily drawn and visualized.

Students will learn to design with letterforms, differentiating between calligraphy, lettering, and typography as well as differentiating between fonts. Applying the principles of design to designing with type, students will learn to use type creatively and expressively. Prerequisite: MMDT 1004
